August 2010
American Institute of Management’s Family Business Connection Series:

Murray Drywall & Insulation of Texas Inc.

Jim Murray, founder and president of Murray Drywall & Insulation of Texas, Inc., joined Byron McFarland on August 20th at the American Institute of Management’s Family Business Connection meeting.

Jim started his business in 1971 and has grown, with the help of key employees, including his two sons Mike and Greg, from annual sales of one million in the early 1970’s to nearly $50 million in 2009.

Jim talked about how Byron walked him through a series of discussions that helped Jim set his priorities, identify funding sources and develop a plan to retain his key employees through the transition  process.  This ultimately laid the ground work for a business succession plan that would meet Jim’s vision for his company.

Jim is looking forward to the rewards that the successful transition of ownership of his business will provide, so that he can spend more time with his wife and family.

October 2010
Byron and Terri McFarland hosted national guest speaker, Mimi Donaldson

Mimi Donaldson is the author of newly released book: Necessary Roughness: New Rules for the Contact Sport of Life.

She presented to two groups: the first was to the Entrepreneurial Organization of NE members and their spouses prior to the NE vs Kansas game and the second was to group of clients and spouses.  She used her practical, humorous, and friendly approach to show how the “All American” game of football will release the secrets of capitalizing on opportunity and intention, so attendees could get tips on how to help bridge the differences in communication styles.
