Personal

My wife, Terri and I have been married since 1985. We have two children: Alex and Katie. Alex completed his fours years of  service in the United State Air Force in July of 2009, as a Korean linguist. He is currrently attending college in Kristiansand, Norway. Both children are enrolled at the University of Nebraska and are studying International Relations.

Terri and I are from small towns in South Dakota. She was raised in Yankton and was very involved in 4H, showing quarter horses, and helping with the family business and family farm. I grew up in Brookings, where I operated heavy equipment for my step-father's road construction business. My father's family were ranchers in western South Dakota.

I served in the US Marine Corps from July 1978 to July 1981. At that time, I was stationed at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina with the 3rd Battalion 10th Marines. I was Honorably Discharged as a Corporal and awarded the Naval Achievement for Service in Operation Solid Shield.

Fly fishing is a passion of mine. Some of my favorite locations have been in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Arkansas. Each year I take a trip to the Pacific Northwest for Steelhead.

Another passion of mine is motorcycle road trips. I have owned Harley Davidson motorcycles for most of my life. In 1999, I bought a Heritage Softtail and now own a Road King. From spring to fall, I can be found on most Fridays riding with my friends around the Loess Hills of Iowa. Terri and I generally put over 3,000 miles on road trips annually. I am a regular attendee of the Sturgis Rally, and attended both the 100th and 105th Anniversary for Harley Davidson in Milwaukee.

In the fall, we co-host tailgate events for home football games in Lot 12 on the University of Nebraska campus. You will find us next to the "Pella Fella."  When the weather turns really cold, we attend Creighton University Jays basketball games and University of NE Maveric hockey games.
